Outside Walking Office Hour: April 3 at 10:00 am in Framingham Centre

In order to make my office hour accessible to those who may be concerned about an inside meeting, I am going to hold it outside in Framingham Centre on Sunday, April 3rd at 10:00 am. We’ll start in the Village Hall parking lot and walk around the Centre. Feel free to bring questions or concerns about the city or just say hello.

For those with the “Keep Framingham Beautiful” spirit, we’ll pick up trash as we walk along. Finally, we’ll make our way around to the great businesses in Framingham Centre so that we can finish the office hour with a bagel, ice cream, slice of pizza, or another treat. I hope you can all make it!

New Flashing Crosswalk at Edgell and Frost

Thank you to the Traffic Commission for approving a flashing light for the Edgell crosswalk at Frost Street. This crosswalk is heavily used and is very dangerous due to the cars speeding down Edgell, especially coming from the Nobscot intersection. The crosswalk light or rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) should do a better job warning drivers of crossing pedestrians.

Open House at OUT Metrowest

Earlier in March, I stopped by the open house for OUT MetroWest at ATAC (Amazing Things Arts Center). ATAC had been looking for a tenant for their top floor that would help defray building costs. OUT Metrowest was on the hunt for a new home so it worked out perfectly. Such a perfect partnership between Out Metrowest and ATAC – two organizations doing critical work for Framingham and beyond! Thank you to OUT Metrowest Director Whitney Retallic for the invitation!

KFB Awards

Thank you to Keep Framingham Beautiful (KFB) for recognizing me and my daughter as the best father/daughter team in their first annual KFB awards!

If you don’t know KFB, it is a grassroots organization that has formed with a simple mission: Help keep our city clean. Members use their free time to walk through our neighborhoods picking up litter and educating others about the challenges caused by all of the trash that ends up in our streets.

Interested in helping out? It is a perfect time to get involved because the citywide “Great Framingham Cleanup” is coming soon – from April 9-22. Check out http://www.keepframinghambeautiful.org/

Budget Season is Beginning

On Tuesday, March 29, Mayor Sisitsky and the City Council will have a special joint meeting to begin discussing the next city budget with a particular focus on revenues.

It is already clear that we will be received a great deal of support from the State of Massachusetts in the form of increased state aid and we will also be able to tap into federal covid funding.

As the budget discussions develop, I will continue to advocate for adequate funding for our schools, for our environment, and to protect city services that we rely on.

Nobscot Plaza:

It was exciting to finally see some progress on the Nobscot intersection and movement on a developer for the entire plaza project. The key thing is going to be close oversight of the project design and implementation.

The Planning Board should be able to get some sense of the timeline of the plaza project at their meeting on April 7.

For the next several months, the intersection of Edgell/Water/Edmands will also be under construction. This road project will also intersect with a redevelopment of the gas station. DPW will be having an informational meeting about all of this work later on in the Spring details TBA.
