Office Hour: August 14 at 10 am in Cafe Fresh Bagel

Please join me on August 14th at 10 am for an open office hour. Feel free to bring questions, concerns, or just to visit. If you haven't been there before, Cafe Fresh Bagel is a great local spot for a bagel, a coffee, and more.

Share your thoughts about the City’s website!

The city is currently in the process of redesigning the website and seeking the feedback of residents and business owners. Feedback can be given through the official Website Redesign Survey: one for residents of the city and one for business owners.

The surveys are available in Portuguese, Spanish, and French. For any other languages, please use the translation feature on the top, right-hand corner of the City’s website. You can access the website survey here. Deadline: August 10th

State Election Primary Day: September 6

State Election Day: November 8

This fall we have an important statewide election and I would encourage all eligible voters to participate!

There is more information on the races including sample ballots on the Framingham City Clerk website.

If you are unsure of your district, you can use this map to check. District 3 includes everyone in precincts 19, 20, and 21, and we all vote at Brophy Elementary School. For more detailed information, check out this page that I put together.

New Flashing Crosswalk at Edgell and Frost

Thank you to the Traffic Commission for approving a flashing light for the Edgell crosswalk at Frost Street. This crosswalk is heavily used and is very dangerous due to the cars speeding down Edgell, especially coming from the Nobscot intersection. The crosswalk light or rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) should do a better job warning drivers of crossing pedestrians.

Visit to DPW and Pumping Stations

Last week I had the opportunity to visit DPW facilities including new and aging pumping stations. Thank you to Director Bob Lewis and Chief Engineer Bill Sedewitz. The firsthand tour made it all the more clear how critical our Framingham Public Works Department is to our quality of life in Framingham - and how outdated some of our infrastructure is.

Framingham Youth Police Academy

Another highlight from the past month was the Framingham Youth Police Academy graduation including my daughter who had an amazing experience this week. Thank you, Chief Baker, Sgt. Ball, Lt. Ruiz, and all of the officers who helped to run the week, and the rest of Framingham Police Department! Such a great program!

The City of Framingham Community Development Program is conducting its annual Community Needs Survey to help us determine Community Development Block Grant priorities for FY24. We anticipate that the RFP for FY24 will be available in October 2022. Use the links below to complete the survey by August 29.

Nobscot rendering Water Street facing SW

Nobscot Plaza:

It was exciting to finally see some progress on the Nobscot intersection and movement on a developer for the entire plaza project. The key thing is going to be close oversight of the project design and implementation.

For detailed information on the updated plaza design, check out the Planning Board's meeting materials:

https://webapps.framinghamma.gov/WebLink/Browse.aspx?id=1709483&dbid=0&repo=Framingham

For the next several months, the intersection of Edgell/Water/Edmands will also be under construction. This road project will also intersect with a redevelopment of the gas station. DPW will be having an informational meeting about all of this work later on in the Spring details TBA.

By the way, if you didn't get to see the historic chapel move down Edgell Road in Spring 2020, here is a brief video for you to check out:

Chapel Move

Another highlight earlier this summer was joining Congressman Jim McGovern for his visit to Daniel's Table to share his work to bring hunger to the top of the Biden administration agenda - and to hear about the incredible progress made by David and Alicia Blaise and the rest of the team. The app developed by Daniel's Table could be a game-changer for organizations trying to address food insecurity and in helping get social service agencies pulling in the same direction - together!
